When using a VPN provider, most expect that all their traffic flows through the VPN network, however sometimes a security flaw known as a “DNS leak” occurs. Under certain conditions, even when connected to a VPN service, the operating system will continue to use its default DNS servers instead of the anonymous DNS servers assigned by the VPN service. DNS leaks are a major privacy threat since the VPN provider may be providing a false sense of security to the user while their personal information and data is leaking.
