TEXMACS – How to write a journal with TEXMACS on Windows 7
If you need to write a journal or review paper, download Texmacs for Windows (MacOS, Linux etc).
Step 1 – Enter the Title
INSERT > TITLE > INSERT TITLE
Hit enter to gain a new line in the title section
Step 2 – Enter your Name
Put your name, faculty and email CENTERED on the next 3 lines.
Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science, University of South Wales
Step 3 – Add an Abstract
All journal papers start with an abstract. This is approximately 200 words that describes the content of your paper. Readers use the Abstract to decide if your paper is worth reading.
You’ll need to click on the white space at the edge, to get yourself out of the title section, in order to create a new section called Abstract.
INSERT > TITLE > ABSTRACT
Step 4 – Add an Introduction
The Introduction is a general overview of the paper, or background.
INSERT > SECTION > SECTION
INSERT > SECTION > SUBSECTION
Step 5 – Methods & Summary of Results
A research paper has a methods section.
A review paper does NOT have a methods section.
Step 6 – Start writing your journal.
Step 7 – Insert a “Conclusions” Section
Insert a section for your conclusions. Allow around 10% of your word count for your conclusions.
So a 5,000 word article, would have a 500 word conclusion as a general rule.
Step 8 – “References”
(Author, date, page number)
Get the “cite them right” book to help out with referencing unusual materials.
